The Last Day on Kaua'i

On Monday Anne got up to see the sunrise and I slept in for a bit. We had breakfast in the room and did our stinky laundry from the hike. Ad the laundry was in the dryer, we rented snorkeling gear for the day and gave it a quick try at the beach at the hotel. It was good to get some practice with the rental gear.

We headed back into Lihue to a food truck we saw and had to try.

Kikuchi's had an awesome ahi tuna wrap and it was incredible.

And of course, being on Kaua'i, there are chickens and roosters everywhere.
From there we decided to go back up to the north shore to Princeville to a little beach called The Hideaways. I think this was the best beach of the trip. Princeville is a very high class community, with golf courses and private drives. But just outside the St. Regis, there is a tiny parking lot for 8 cars. From there you traverse along a trail between the tennis courts and a private pool, then go down a steep slope with rope handrails down 120 feet to a little secluded beach between two black rock cliffs.

We donned our snorkel gear and hopped in and it was fantastic.
We saw so many fish, and so many with bright colours.

It was amazing to see the canyons that were carved into the rock and coral.
After a break we headed back in and that's were we saw our turtle.

We came over a ridge, and at the bottom of a little hole there was a surprisingly round rock... It wasn't a rock, it was a turtle resting on the bottom.

We kept going a bit further, but that was the apex of the snorkeling. We hiked out and went to Anini Beach to try our luck there. The edge of the reef is much further out so there is a long quiet calm bit of water to try out. Once we were there we were somewhat uninspired. The beach was corally and rocky and it didn't get all that deep. It took a long time to get out to where fish were, and they were less plentiful and it was shallow enough to almost scrape your knees as you were going out. We did see a couple morays and a see snake which was exciting though.

We got back to the hotel in time for a happy hour Mai Thai. After that we went to Trees for an amazing ahi tuna dinner then got all packed up for or flight to Oahu.
